Cristiano Ronaldo has fired a subtle shot at his former manager Erik ten Hag, suggesting that the Dutchman's treatment of him during their time together at Manchester United was unprofessional.

In a recent interview, Ronaldo was asked if he was prepared to start on the bench for Portugal, to which he responded, "In my mind, I'll always be a starter... once or twice, they've also behaved badly towards me."

The 39-year-old superstar's comments are seen as a clear reference to his tumultuous relationship with ten Hag, who he played under at Manchester United in the 2022-2023 season. Ronaldo was relegated to the bench and eventually left the club to join Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

Ronaldo's remarks come as he prepares to lead Portugal in the UEFA Nations League against Croatia and Scotland, with his sights set on reaching 1,000 career goals. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner currently has 899 goals to his name.
