Photograph from 1956 shows 15-year-old Billy Ray Prevatte smoking in a police car after killing a teacher and wounding two others in Maryland Park junior high school.
He was imprisoned at Patuxent Institution following the crime before eventually being paroled sometime later.
In Maryland in 1978, he was found guilty of attempting to hire someone to kill a witness in a Montgomery County burglary case.
Prevatte was sentenced to 40 years in 1978 and was readmitted to Patuxent.
Four years into his 40-year term, in 1982, he was once again granted parole.
