Bayern Leverkusen strengthened their quest for a treble by triumphing 2-0 in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League semi-final against Roma on Thursday, maintaining their unbeaten streak of 47 matches. Florian Wirtz and Robert Andritch found the net on either side of half-time, breaking a series of three draws with a crucial victory. Leverkusen will now take their 2-0 lead back home for the second leg in western Germany.

Under the guidance of Coach Xabi Alonso, the team, already Bundesliga champions for the first time in the club's history, looks forward to the German Cup final on May 25, where they are heavily favored against second-division Karlsruhe. The win in Rome propels Leverkusen closer to a final in continental competition as well.

In the other semi-final on Thursday, Olympique Marseille and Atalanta ended in a 1-1 draw. Gianluca Scamacca opened the scoring for Atalanta in the 11th minute, but Marseille's Chancel Mbemba equalized nine minutes later. Despite opportunities in the second half, both teams failed to add to their tally.

The second legs of the semi-finals are scheduled for next Thursday, with the final set to take place in Dublin on May 22.
