Whether you're a recent graduate, a corper, a stay-at-home parent, or someone seeking a side hustle, this post aims to inspire and guide you on your entrepreneurial journey.

Finding a high paying white collar job has become a challenge in Nigeria nowadays. Getting the funds to start up a business is another story. As a not-so-lazy Nigerian youth however, there are some side hustles you can do while waiting for that perfect job, or while saving up for your business.

Freelancing Services

Offer your skills and services as a freelancer. This could include writing, graphic design, web development, digital marketing, or any other skill you possess. You can find freelancing opportunities on platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, or Freelancer.

While platforms like Upwork might be challenging for beginners, all you need to do is to learn more tips and secrets of the platform. While learning, you can work with/learn from established freelancers in your field. You can find them on platforms like Nairaland, Facebook, Linkedin, etc.

Note that working with these set of people will be stressful with very little pay, but your target should be as follows

  • Find a successful freelancer in your selected niche
  • Work for them, learn from them, and get paid stipends for data and basic needs
  • Keep learning the skill (boot camps, YouTube, courses, etc)
  • Start sourcing for your clients

Blogging and Affiliate Marketing

Start a blog and monetize it through affiliate marketing. You can promote products or services from other companies and earn a commission on sales generated through your affiliate links. This requires consistent effort in creating valuable content and building an audience. If you aren’t good at marketing, you can simply monetize your site through advertisement platforms like Google AdSense, Adsterra, etc.

Online Tutoring or Coaching

If you have expertise in a particular subject or skill, you can offer online tutoring or coaching services. Platforms like Chegg, Preply, or Tutor.com allow you to create a profile and connect with students seeking your services. You get paid per hour in these sites (usually in dollars).

Social Media Management

Many businesses need help managing their social media presence. You can offer social media management services, such as creating content, scheduling posts, and engaging with followers, on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or LinkedIn.

Virtual Assistant Services

Businesses and individuals often require administrative support. You can offer virtual assistant services, such as data entry, appointment scheduling, customer service, or research tasks, without the need for a physical office space.

It's important to note that while these business ideas may not require a significant initial investment, they do require dedication, hard work, and persistence. You'll need to market your services effectively, build a strong portfolio or reputation, and consistently deliver high-quality work to attract and retain clients. Additionally, you may need to invest in some basic tools or resources as your business grows, such as a reliable computer, internet connection, or software subscriptions.
