Chelsea Football Club has made a significant managerial decision by appointing Enzo Maresca as their new head coach. This move comes after the departure of Mauricio Pochettino. Maresca, who previously managed Leicester City, has signed a five-year contract with the potential for an additional sixth year, demonstrating Chelsea’s long-term vision.

Before joining Chelsea, Maresca led Leicester City to a successful season in the EFL Championship. Under his guidance, the Foxes secured 97 points, winning 31 matches, drawing four, and losing 11. This impressive performance earned them the 2023-24 Championship title and promotion back to the Premier League.

Maresca, a former midfielder with clubs like Juventus, Fiorentina, Sevilla, and Olympiacos, transitioned into coaching in 2020. He spent two seasons as the head coach of Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad, winning the Premier League 2 title in 2021. Subsequently, he became the manager at Parma but was dismissed after just one season. Returning to Manchester City as an assistant coach under Pep Guardiola, Maresca contributed to their Premier League title in the 2022-23 season.

Now, Maresca faces the challenge of leading one of England’s biggest clubs out of their recent performance struggles. Chelsea, despite finishing sixth in the 2023-24 Premier League season (an improvement from the previous year), aims to regain their former glory. The club has not won the Premier League title since 2017, and expectations remain high.

While Maresca takes the reins at Stamford Bridge, Leicester City will receive compensation for his departure. The negotiations between Chelsea and Leicester are in their final stages, with the contract details being ironed out. The feeling is that Maresca’s appointment will be confirmed soon, marking the beginning of a busy summer for Chelsea. The club plans to strengthen various positions including the Goal keeper , Center Back and striker as they pursue success in the upcoming season.
