The Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has refuted claims that convicted crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, is being held in a VIP apartment at the Kirikiri correctional centre.

According to a statement by NCoS spokesperson, Rotimi Oladokun, Bobrisky is sharing a cell with other convicted inmates and is not receiving any special treatment. The statement clarified that the cell block infrastructure at the facility is designed to accommodate multiple inmates and there are no en-suite or 'one-bedroom flat' style cells.

Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison for abusing and mutilating the naira, and is currently serving his term at the Kirikiri correctional centre. The NCoS statement emphasized that Bobrisky is being treated like any other inmate, without special amenities or privileges, and is subject to the same rules and regulations, including the dress code.

The correctional service also confirmed that Bobrisky was remanded in a male custodial centre and is wearing male-designated correctional clothing. The statement urged the public to disregard the "malicious publication" and emphasized that all inmates, including Bobrisky, are entitled to family and legal visits, which are monitored and regulated by the NCoS.

A source within the correctional centre also confirmed that Bobrisky is being treated equally to other inmates and has undergone a medical examination, which revealed no gender realignment or genital organs alteration.

Bobrisky was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in April for spraying new naira notes at a movie premiere, and was subsequently convicted and sentenced by a Federal High Court in Lagos.
