The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, is set to celebrate his 50th birthday in October with the launch of 50 legacy projects. In an exclusive interview with Premium Times, the traditional ruler revealed that the projects, which cut across various sectors, are aimed at showcasing his impact and legacy as a monarch.

Ogunwusi also spoke about his passion for promoting Nigerian culture and fashion, particularly the Adire textile industry, which he has supported through his wife's initiative, African Fashion Week.

When asked about his style, the Ooni explained that his traditional attire represents purity, spirituality, and a connection to his ancestors. He also revealed that he misses wearing casual clothes like jeans but is unable to do so due to his royal responsibilities.

The Ooni addressed comparisons with his predecessor, stating that he is focused on blending tradition and modernity and will not be distracted by criticism. He also emphasized the importance of harnessing historical knowledge and highlighted the shared ancestry of the Yoruba and Igbo ethnic groups, citing the kola nut as a symbol of their connection.

The Ooni's 50th birthday celebration promises to be a significant event, showcasing his commitment to legacy, culture, and unity.
