Senator Orji Kalu expressed his support for a part-time legislature.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatisation, has expressed support for a part-time legislature at both federal and state levels. In an interview, he suggested that lawmakers should sit for only three months to amend the constitution and then meet four times a year, with emergency sittings as needed.

Kalu believes this move would reduce the cost of governance and increase citizens' trust in the political system. He also proposed exploring regional government as an alternative, which would merge legislative and executive roles.

The former Abia Governor debunked the notion that senators are overpaid, stating that their salaries are not sufficient. He urged his colleagues and the National Assembly to consider a constitutional amendment to adopt a part-time legislature, which would benefit the country and its people.
