The wife of Lagos State Governor, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has emphasized the need for alternative communication methods tailored to the unique needs of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Speaking at the 14th Annual Autism Conference in Lagos, Mrs. Sanwo-Olu suggested incorporating local content, visuals, and sounds into communication strategies. She also stressed the importance of community education and parental patience.

The conference, themed "A Spectrum of Possibilities," featured experts in behavioral analysis, speech pathology, childhood education, and psychology. CEO of Behaviorprise College, Lanre Duyile, discussed antecedent manipulation to improve learning and behavior in children with special needs.

Speech therapist Eniola Lahanmi highlighted the importance of early diagnosis and intervention in supporting communication development in children with autism. Clinical psychologist Benedict Sama noted that children with ASD are prone to anxiety disorders.

The conference is part of the Guaranty Trust Holding Company's (GTCO) Orange Ribbon Initiative, which supports children with developmental disabilities. The event includes free consultations and aims to raise awareness and promote innovation in ASD support.
