US President Joe Biden, 81, tests positive for COVID-19, experiencing mild symptoms, and will self-isolate at his Delaware residence while continuing to carry out his duties, amid ongoing debates about his health ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19, the White House announced on Thursday. The 81-year-old president, who is fully vaccinated and boosted, is experiencing mild symptoms, including a runny nose and cough. He will self-isolate at his private residence in Delaware and continue to carry out his duties.

Biden's doctor administered a PCR confirmation test and started him on the COVID drug Paxlovid. This is the president's second COVID-19 diagnosis, having previously tested positive in 2022 with mild symptoms.

The news comes amid ongoing debates about Biden's mental acuity and physical condition ahead of the November presidential election, where he faces Republican nominee Donald Trump. Due to his advanced age, Biden is considered high-risk for severe COVID-19 illness.
