Tragedy Strikes in Lagos as Building Collapse Claims Three Lives

A building under construction collapsed in Lagos, Nigeria, killing three site workers and injuring others. Rescue operations are ongoing, with emergency responders working to search for survivors and provide medical attention.

 

A devastating building collapse occurred in the early hours of the morning at 13 Wilson Mba Street, Arowojobe Estate, Maryland, Lagos, resulting in the deaths of at least three people. The incident happened at approximately 3:58 am, with rescue operations commencing immediately.

According to eyewitnesses, a set of three terraces under construction collapsed, trapping site workers under the rubble. Emergency responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), Lagos State Rescue and Fire Service, Nigeria Police, and other teams rushed to the scene to conduct search and rescue operations.

LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, confirmed that three adult males were recovered dead, while two male adults were rescued alive. An additional adult male was also rescued alive after being trapped under the rubble.

All six individuals involved were site workers, with the survivors receiving pre-hospital care on location. The remains of the three fatalities have been handed over to the appropriate authorities.

LASEMA's excavator has been deployed to accelerate the search and rescue operations, which are ongoing. The cause of the building collapse is yet to be determined.
