Four National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members have shared their harrowing experience after being kidnapped by Fulani herdsmen in Ondo State. The corps members, who were abducted on their way from Enugu State, were held captive for four days and subjected to torture, dirty water, and garri.
According to Patient Andrew, one of the victims, the kidnappers, who wore military uniforms and spoke Hausa/Fulani, demanded a ransom of N30 million per person, which was later reduced to N1 million. The victims' families paid a total of N5 million in ransom, along with food items and drinks.
The kidnappers released the corps members after the police mounted pressure on them. The victims received medical treatment at the Owo area command clinic and have since written their statements.
The brother of one of the victims, Oluwadara Olamide, who delivered the ransom, recounted how he was warned not to inform the security, or else he would face consequences.
The Ondo State police command has confirmed that the victims were abandoned by their assailants after a sustained operation by the police.
