The FCT Police Command denies arresting journalist Jide Oyekunle, saying he was removed from a violent protest scene for his own safety after refusing to leave, and not taken into custody as reported.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has refuted reports that photojournalist Jide Oyekunle was arrested while covering the ongoing protest in Abuja. According to the Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, Oyekunle was instead removed from the scene for his own safety after refusing to leave a potentially dangerous area.

Adeh explained that as the protest turned violent, Oyekunle was advised to relocate to a safer location but declined, prompting police to take him away to protect him from harm. She emphasized that the police are responsible for safeguarding lives and property during the protest.

The denial comes after reports circulated that Oyekunle was arrested by police operatives while performing his duties as a journalist. The FCT Police Command's clarification aims to set the record straight and reassure the public of their commitment to maintaining public safety.
