Activist Omoyele Sowore slams Nigeria's Council of State meeting as a 'failure meeting' attended by President Tinubu and former leaders, criticizing their support for the current administration amidst calls for reforms and better governance.

Activist politician Omoyele Sowore has expressed strong disapproval of the recent Council of State meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, which was attended by President Bola Tinubu and his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari. Sowore, a former presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), described the gathering as a “failure meeting with a failure.”

This Council of State meeting marked the first presided over by President Tinubu since he took office. Notably, former presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari were present, while ex-Military Heads of State Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar participated virtually. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo did not attend, either in person or online.

During the meeting, members of the Council of State expressed their support for Tinubu, condemning the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria movement that has criticized the current administration. Sowore, however, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to voice his dissent, stating, “Today in Abuja at the Presidential Villa, a former failed President @MBuhari had a meeting with the current failed President @officialABAT.”

Sowore's remarks reflect ongoing tensions regarding governance and accountability in Nigeria, as citizens and activists continue to call for reforms and better leadership in the country.
