Everyone deserves to love and be loved in return

Rachael dated just for the sake of dating, but as time went on she found herself wanting more specifically with a guy she had been seeing for a few weeks.

She convinced herself that he wanted a relationship as much as she did.

One night, after a friend’s birthday party, she waited on the subway platform, and she had just enough champagne to get up the guts to say, “Hi, I like you, you like me? Wanna hang out?”

“Absolutely!” he answered. After they kissed, she smiled and didn’t stop until she fell asleep that night.

she had never felt better about someone’s feelings for her, and she thought this would be the beginning of something wonderful.

But that next week, she didn’t hear from him for a few days, and when she did, she was always the person reaching out first.

she practically begged him to hang out, but he said, “I’m so sorry. I’m really busy this week with work. I don’t have a spare minute to myself.”

She knew relationships were hard, but she didn’t know they were like this. She hadn’t seen him since the subway platform and didn’t understand what went wrong.

She was having coffee with her friend Wura when she asked her how it was going with the new guy. “It’s going okay,” Rachael said, “but he is just so busy.

He doesn’t even have time to see me.” Wura turned to face her and gently grabbed her arms. “Let me tell you something. If a person is into you, they’ll move heaven and earth to see you.”

Rachael heard her words, she was still in denial. She believed the guy truly wanted a relationship.

She convinced herself that she was cool with being the only one to initiate communication and suggest date nights, but she kept thinking about Wura’s advice.

After much agony, she decided to call it off. She felt so dumb and hurt.

She was heartbroken over a person who felt like the real deal in some ways, even if he fell short in others.

About a month later, Rachael met her current partner. After their first date, he asked her out on a second date the following weekend and she said yes.

As they kissed good night and lingered for a while, he suddenly said, “Are you around on Tuesday? I don’t want to wait a whole week to see you again.”

He had moved heaven and earth in just a few words, and she knew right then what Wura meant.

Don't ever settle for less. We all deserve to love and be loved in return. Never force friendship. You're unique and special and anyone will be lucky to have you as a friend.
