Before the release of the NYSC call-up letter, I visited Mercy and we watched a movie on Netflix titled Up North. It was about a young rebellious heir from a wealthy family who was sent away to national service in northern Nigeria.

Babe, the call-up letter is out, check your portal”. I froze and a wave of fear washed over me as my best friend Mercy said those words. It took about 4 hours before I could summon up the courage to check the NYSC portal. After several attempts to view it due to congestion, my fate was finally revealed.

The first and most important word which stood out was “Katsina”. Another wave of fear washed over me. I kept on refreshing the page hoping, praying, and wishing it would change (of course, it didn’t ).

It took an hour for me to accept the result. Without knowing what was going to happen, I proceeded to announce to my family and friends where I would be spending the next 21 days for the NYSC Orientation camp.
