The nominees for the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) have been unveiled, setting the stage for one of the most prestigious nights celebrating African film and television. Princess on a Hill
Directed by Abiola Sobo and Tolu Ajayi, Princess on a Hill follows the journey of Zara Osara (Onyinye Odokoro), a young woman thrust into the world of corporate politics after winning a reality show. The series also features Nollywood heavyweights Bimbo Manuel and Efa Iwara, who have been nominated for Best Lead Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively. Cheta M
Directed by James Omokwe, Cheta M Season 2 delves into the gripping love story of Adanna and Nnanna, who face threats from spiritual and political forces, along with personal sacrifices. The epic drama, starring Kingsley Nwachukwu and Oluchi Amajuoyi, has earned nominations for Best Series (Scripted) and Best Writing – TV Series. Cheta M Season 2 is currently streaming, with new episodes dropping weekly.
My Fairytale Wedding
My Fairytale Wedding explores the concept of love and destiny through the lives of three friends—Moji, Tima, and Precious. The limited series, directed by Dimeji Ajibola, follows Moji’s desperate attempt to secure her happy ending using charms known as ‘kanyanmata.’ The series boasts an all-star cast, including Ini Edo, Ramsey Nouah, Daniel Etim-Effiong, Carolyna Hutchings, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Shaffy Bello, and more.
The Caller
This gripping thriller follows a high-stakes hostage situation sparked by an infidelity-exposé segment on Koki Mandla’s radio show. The tension escalates as the egotistical host attempts to talk down an enraged soldier threatening to kill his wife and children live on air. Starring Nice Githinji, Brenda Mwai, and Joe Kinyua, The Caller has been nominated in the Best Indigenous M-Net Original, Best Indigenous Language (East Africa), and Best Scripted M-Net Original categories.
Italo
Centered around the harrowing theme of human trafficking, Italo tells the intersecting stories of three trafficked women—Itohan, the trafficker; Esosa, the escaped victim; and Omotola, a restless teenager. Directed by Rogers Ofime, the series blends themes of love and survival while exposing the painful realities of trafficking. Featuring Angela Eguavoen, Frankincense Eche-Ben, and Henry Iyobosa Legemah, Italo has secured a nomination for Best Scripted M-Net Original.
Style Magnate
A high-stakes fashion and design competition, Style Magnate brought together 20 emerging designers, all vying for a grand prize worth 100 million Naira. With guidance from renowned fashion icon Mai Atafo and fashion principal Yolanda Okereke, the designers battled for the ultimate Style Magnate title. Produced by Abisola Omolade, the reality series has been nominated for Best Series Unscripted.
